Greek Grilled Shrimp

Greek Grilled Shrimp ready to eat

This recipe is inspired by a favorite chicken souvlaki recipe. It also uses a favorite spice mix of mine – Cavender’s All Purpose Greek Seasoning.

Great as an appetizer or the main dish.

This recipes makes 8 to 10 extra large (26-30 ct) shrimp.  If you want to make more just double the amounts in the marinade.

If you are using wood skewers soak them in water for 30 minutes before using them so they don’t burn up on the grill.

Marinade for Greek Grilled Shrimp

Let’s make the marinade first.  Combine the olive oil, lemon juice and spice mix in a small container and mix together well.

To prepare the shrimp, remove the shells and tails, rinse them with water and pat them dry with a paper towel.

Put the shrimp on the skewers.  I put them close so they will cook just a little slower on the grill allowing more time to hopefully get them caramelized a little.

Greek Grilled Shrimp with brushed on marinade

Put the skewers of shrimp on a plate, dish, whatever you want and then brush each side with the marinade.

Marinate in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Once they are done marinading it’s time to grill them.

Your grill should be clean and preheated.

Grill each skewer for 2 to 3 minutes on each side.  Time will vary some depending on how hot your grill is.

That’s it, time to serve!  If you need to keep them warm for a little you can wrap them in some aluminum foil.

Note:  You can use vinegar instead of lemon juice.  Though try lemon juice first if you can and see what you like best.
