I love sweet tea and it’s a great drink for parties. Easy to make and no ingredients like sodas that you can’t pronounce or spell. Whether you call it sweet tea (I do) or iced tea doesn’t matter to me as long as it has plenty of sugar.
This recipe makes 1 gallon of sweet tea. Need two gallons for a party? Just double the recipe.
What brand of tea bags for making sweet tea?
Luzianne family size iced tea bags are my go to for making a gallon or two of sweet tea.
It’s a mix of orange pekoe and and pekoe cut black teas and available in 24 and 48 count.
It’s inexpensive, really good, and easy to find at most grocery stores. Lipton is good too but costs more. Mint tea is really good too!
Sweet Tea
This recipe makes 1 gallon of sweet tea. Need two gallons for a party? Just double the recipe.
Servings: 1 gallon
Ingredients
- 1 gallon water
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 4 family sized tea bags
Instructions
- Put about 1 quart of the water and the sugar in a pan and bring to a full boil stirring some until the sugar is dissolved.
- Remove pan from heat and put the tea bags in the pan and steep for 5 minutes.
- Remove the tea bags. Do NOT squeeze them as this will make the tea astringent.
- Let cool and add the rest of the water.
Notes
I like and use Luzianne brand tea bags for sweet tea. Any brand should do though!
If you like mint tea you can use mint tea bags instead which is good. Not sure if you will find family size mint tea bags. A family size tea bag is equal to 4 tea bags for a single cup of tea.
