Grape Jelly BBQ Sauce | Apple Jelly BBQ Sauce

Apple Jelly or Grape Jelly BBQ SauceGrape Jelly BBQ Sauce – Apple Jelly BBQ Sauce

Years ago there was a restaurant and bar in central PA called the Alpine and I always liked their barbecue sauce that came with the chicken fingers. It was a little spicy and had a little extra sweetness.

I always wondered what sauce it was or if it was homemade.  Eventually I figured out (or so I think) that it was a spicy BBQ sauce (maybe Sweet Baby Ray’s sweet and spicy) with some grape jelly added.  I like using apple jelly instead when making this for chicken, ribs, and pulled pork and prefer grape jelly when making Slow Cooker Grape Jelly BBQ Meatballs.

Try both and see what you prefer, they are both really good.

If you have your own homemade BBQ sauce recipe it would be easy to modify it using this idea.

Recipe tip – You can use a syrup made from half juice and half sugar heated/reduced until it’s a syrup.  I’ve done this with an apple syrup and it combines more easily and I liked it better but this takes extra effort to make the syrup instead of using already made jelly.

Grape Jelly BBQ Sauce – Apple Jelly BBQ Sauce

I like this a lot for ribs, pulled pork or chicken. I make what I need rather than using a full bottle of BBQ sauce and this is why I use ratios instead of measurements.

Notes

I like to use Sweet Baby Rays sweet and spicy BBQ sauce for this even though it’s not my favorite by itself. Use whatever you want. All that matters is you like it!
