My sister Diana and I started making this chocolate peanut butter spread a long time ago. I think it was in the early 80’s and we called it slop. I don’t remember what prompted us to even try this, probably just hungry and had chocolate syrup and peanut butter in the house. This was long before Hershey’s chocolate spread and Reese’s peanut butter spread came out. This is better than both. You have to try it and see for yourself. You can can even use Hershey’s syrup and Reese’s peanut butter to make it so they aren’t left out.
In more recent years a product similar to this came on the market. The ones I’ve tried aren’t quite the same. Maybe it’s the ingredients or just not as much chocolate syrup as I’m used to and as we’ve always made it.
Use a peanut butter and chocolate syrup you like. I do use a no stir natural peanut butter and that works well. I’ve never tried this with the natural peanut butter where the oil separates and has to be mixed in so that might throw off the recipe. I usually use Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Generic is fine as long as it tastes good to you.
You can dip pretzels in it, spread it on a cookie, eat it by itself and I’m sure you can come up with more ideas! The pic in this post has it spread on a pecan butter cookie I bought at the store.
This is easy to make and only two ingredients.
Put the peanut butter and chocolate syrup in a bowl and mix until well combined. That’s it. You are done.
